History of Madurai meenakshi Temple

Sri Meenakshi Amman Temple Meenakshi Amman Temple is a notable Tamil Hindu sanctuary situated on the southern bank of the Vaigai River in the sanctuary city , Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is devoted to Parvati, known as Meenakshi, and her associate, Shiva, here named Sundareswarar. The sanctuary shapes the heart and help of the 2,500-year-old city of Madurai. It is said that the sanctuary was initially worked in the sixth century BC by overcomers of the Kumari Kandam. The first sanctuary was worked by Kulasekara Pandya, yet the whole credit for making the sanctuary as magnificent as it is today goes to the Nayaks. The Nayaks ruled Madurai from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century and left a glorious engraving of their standard in the Meenakshi - Sundareswarar Temple.
